Late P. Kakkan is known as the most straightforward politician ever who travelled in public transport and took treatment in government hospital till the very end. He served as Home Minister in Kamaraj government, a member of Constituent Assembly of India and in various other capacities as Minister in the late 1950s and early 60s.

Rajeshwari the grand daughter of Kappan has taken charge as the DIG of police in Tamil Nadu. Kamal Haasan has expressed his delight stating that his father the late D. Srinivasan was a hardcore fan of Kakkan and his granddaughter Rajeshwari becoming the DIG is an honor to his own family as well.
