Celebrities often find themselves at the mercy of digital bullies, and the emergence of deep fake AI-generated content has become a growing source of concern, causing sleepless nights for those in the public eye. Recently, National Crush Rashmika Mandanna faced a distressing situation when a manipulated video, blending a YouTube influencer's bathroom footage with Rashmika's image, sparked outrage among both celebrities and conscientious individuals.

Despite promises of swift action from the Union Government led by PM Modi, the deepfake menace persisted, extending its reach to actress Kajol. A video circulating on major social media platforms purportedly showing Kajol changing outfits was revealed to be a deepfake. This incident followed the distressing deepfake episode involving Rashmika Mandanna, underscoring the pressing need for stringent measures.

According to the fact-checking platform BOOM, the original video featured a social media influencer, and Kajol's face had been seamlessly morphed into the footage. Although the brief visibility of the original woman's face was noted, the true creator of the video remains undisclosed. The morphed deepfake, part of the "Get Ready With Me" trend on TikTok, emphasizes the potential harm caused by such manipulative content.

Deepfakes, encompassing fabricated images, videos, and audio, are increasingly harnessed for malicious purposes such as creating false narratives and spreading misinformation. This trend poses a substantial challenge to society at large. In response to the outcry over Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake incident, the Indian government issued an advisory to major social media platforms, urging them to swiftly address deepfakes and remove content that propagates misinformation within a 36-hour timeframe.

However, the existing regulatory framework for AI and deepfakes may prove insufficient in tackling the evolving landscape of digital manipulation. As technology advances, there is a critical need for comprehensive regulations and robust enforcement mechanisms to safeguard individuals, particularly those in the public eye, from the detrimental effects of deepfake content.
