You can't convince Kajal Agarwal with an inconsequential or an insubstantial role. She says that she wont accept a role if it has no significant part to play in the film. She drives home the point that, for all the talk of heroines losing their pride of place in today's films, they are getting occasional meatier roles.
In her case, says the cuddly-cute actress, her roles in the movies Lakshmi Kalyanam, Chandamama and Mr. Perfect were very important. While in the case of the first two, there could not have been a film without the heroine's character, in the case of Mr. Perfect, her role was memorable. Magadheera is another film in which the heroine (Kajal as Mitravinda) was an integral part of not one, but two, stories.
That said, Kajal draws our attention to the prevailing scenario in Tamil and Hindi. Wherever you go, Kajal seems to say, heroines are getting meaty roles only occasionally and not regularly. Just because two or three films with heroine having a larger share of the pie are made, you can't say that the balance is gradually tilting towards the diva.
Well, Kajal is indeed right. One observes the trend that doesn't seem to catch up with a regularity. Heroes have solidified their position in Tollywood, Bollywood and Kollywood. Against this background, heroines can only hope to play worthy roles only once a while.
