Producer clarifies on ‘Kaithi’ sequel and remake ban controversy

‘Kaithi’ the stunning all-male dark thriller starring Karthi, received widespread acclaim for its high-octane action sequences and performances of the ensemble cast that comprised of Karthi, Narain, George Mariyan, KPY Dheena and Arjun Das. The success of the film catupulted its director, Lokesh Kanagaraj, into the big league and won him the chance to direct Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in ‘Master’ which turned out to be one of the biggest blockbuster hits ever.

‘Kaithi’ was bankrolled by S.R. Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures and it was recently announced that the film will be remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn in the role played by Karthi in the original.

Meanwhile, a section of the media reported that the story of ‘Kaithi’ was plagiarised from a real prisoner named Rajeev who spent his jail time at the Puzhal prison in Chennai.  It was said that the Kerala High Court has banned the remake of ‘Kaithi’ and also the proposed sequel to it.  Derogatory remarks were also made on director Lokesh Kanagaraj in a news channel report.

S.R. Prabhu has slammed the channel for the way the issue was reported and he made it clear that no legal documents have been received by him and hence he cannot comment on it.  He also let it be known that he and his team are ready to face any legalities in the issue as they have their records clean.   He condemned the derogatory remarks on the director and asked netizens not to jump to conclusions and hurt anyone involved with the film.
