On a high after a good showing in 'Asal', comes Bharadwaj's 'Kadhalukku Maranamillai'. It marks the return of producer K T Kunjumon, who made a name for himself making big-budgeted ventures before.
'Kadhalukku Maranamillai' has lyrics by Vaali and Vairamuthu, the two ace lyricists of Tamil cinema. Directed by C Balaji, the film stars Theja, Meera Nandan, Suhasini, Sarayu, Saranraj, 'Ganja' Karuppu among others.
The likes of Chitra, Shankar Mahadevan, Benny Dayal and Karthik among others have crooned in the album.
1. Ekkachakkam Ekkachakkam
Singer: Suchitra
A song with a rustic Arabic touch and catchy lyric by Vaali. Supposedly a seductive song, it gets polished by the sweet vocals of Suchitra. Good instrumentation by Bharadwaj and the lovely chorus are the highlights.
2. En Idhayam
Singer: Bharadwaj, Chitra
Bharadwaj's songs always have a touch of a classical feel. So is this romantic number which begins on a soft scale. The music composer himself sings it in the company of seasoned Chitra. A soft number with clear vocals and sweet orchestration, it has good lyrics by Vairamuthu, which are elevating.
3. Ishq Ishq Kadhal
Singer: Shankar Mahadevan, Janani
The song penned by Vairamuthu oozes energy all through. More like a Punjabi kawali, it is a fusion between East and the West. The Western rhythm and traditional instrumentation give it right finesse. Shankar Mahadevan is at his best while singing it with enthusiasm and energy.
4. Kadavule Un Kovilil
Singer: Benny Dayal, Surmukhi
Want to try Spanish salsa? Then check out this song. It is like a Tamil song in Spanish format. A racy number that would make one go foot-tapping. Bharadwaj has opted for heavy instruments, which is quite unlikely of his musical score. Benny Dayal and Surumukhi compliment each other.
5. Ennalum Winner Thaan
Singer: Karthik
Vaali's splendid lyrics, Bharadwaj's cool music and Karthik's brisk voice make it a song to reckon with. Lyric stands out in this number which is accompanied well by the music. Karthik gets the tick for his enthusiasm.
Bharadwaj has tried variety in the album. But unlike his 'Asal' which was wholesome, 'Kadhalukku Maranamillai' does miss out something, though the songs manage to stay in the hearts.
