Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty Review

Out of the few films that were poised to reach the theatres for this Ramzan, it was Mammoottty's '  'Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty' which carried the maximum weight of expectations. Particularly as it was coming from writer-director Renjith who was leading the gang of current variety of new-generation directors, the movie was expected to offer loads of freshness. But as you walk out of the theatres screening the movie, you just is served with an average stuff with nothing much to carry home.

The movie has Mammootty as Kurudamchalil Mathew George, popularly known as Mathukutty who is living a monotonous and uninteresting  life in McMan, Germany, just doing household chores while his wife Jansamma(Muthumani) works as a nurse and has little consideration for him. As their Malayalee association in the town plans to bring in some filmystars based show for their 25th anniversary celebration, Mathukutty is entrusted to meet the film stars in Kerala and sign them for the show. Mathukutty was longing for a space to move out of his exile in Germany as he had been to Kerala only four times before in his fifteen year long German stay, all accompanied by his exacting, authoritarian wife. He now takes it as a chance to get back to kerala and to meet his close men including his former lady love Rosy (Alisha).  Though a little money is  offered for the travel, Mathukutty on his arrival acknowledges his friends as the luckiest ones to live in this God's own country. But a tiny clash with a local TV broadcaster Vidyadharan(Tini Tom) and the brother of Rosy, Kunjunni, (P Balachandran) changes the very intentions of his arrival.'Kadal Kadannoru Mathukutty, chronicles the changes that happened in kerala life  and how men here mints money just by creating chances for playing intermediaries.

Renjith' s new Mammootty movie does engage you in the first part of the narrative  but as it moves on, fails to impress with any hard hitting central themes. In this attempt on another feel good stuff, the characters are well placed and has typical identity but with no solid idea to travel through, the movie suffers much in the later half. Though the sequences were not that boring, Renjith needed to have given some deft touches to elevate this into a refreshing experience. The final song comes up in the most unwanted minute inviting unrest from the hardcore commercial viewers. But  the family audience have something to cherish as a simple film with cleaner dialogues and sequences and  a elevating final.

The technical sides are in quality with the narratives with Madhu Neelakantan providing some good visuals. But the editing by Sandeep Nandakumar fails big time to cut away lags and even in cross connecting a meaningful text in the final reels.

In the acting side, as you expect in a Ranjith film, all in the cast delivers classy stuff but even Mammootty in the lead role doesn't have any scenes to list in his bests. Nedumudi Venu, Siddhique and Meera Nandhan are in their usual roles, while Tini Tom, Balachandra Menon and Harishree Ashokan do have something that is notable. Mohanlal, Dileep  and Jayaram appear in cameos.

In the final analysis, the movie may gain applauds from family audiences, but offers nothing for the fanfare of the lead stars.. If you do have a watch with the least of the expectations, this Kadal kadannoru Mathukutty may not totally leave you in despair.
