The pandemic has made it difficult for filmmakers to release their movies theatrically and this is the reason why the safer alternative of OTT platforms is rising these days. However, there are some filmmakers who only wish to showcase their movies on big screen and Kabir Khan is one such example. His sports drama '83' was recently released theatrically but it's been performing below expectations due to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases.
In a recent conversation with a news outlet, Kabir stated that he might have to take the OTT route pretty soon if the film keeps underperforming. According to a report in Koimoi, he said, "We don’t know if we will have to shut down tomorrow, or will be afforded another five to six days. If further restrictions are imposed, we will release the film on the web soon. But, I am keen [that] people take precaution and go to the theatres to watch it.”
Kabir added, "This film was ready with us 18 months ago. We wanted people to see it on the big screen because that is how it was designed. But, such are the times that we live in. We tried hard to acquire a safe spot for the film, but the day of its release, there was a spike in cases. By day four, Delhi theatres had shut down.”
