Kabali: The supra-gamble

It's a case of a supra-gamble in Telugu for a film starring a Kollywood actor who has a pan-South Indian craze going for him. We are talking about Kabali. Should we say it's a gamble of Rajinikanth-esque proportions? Only yesterday, one Shanmuga Films bagged the theatrical release rights of Kabali's Telugu version for an astronomical Rs. 32 cr. This deal only proves the BO stamina of a style icon who is 65. This deal only re-affirms the capability of a Rajini-starring gangster drama to grip the audiences' imagination. This deal only means that 'Basha' is back with a 'Kabali' bang!
Yes, Lingaa was a super flop. But, unlike Lingaa, Kabali's popularity is very large. The teaser released on May 1 has so far clocked 3 million hits. Moreover, unlike Lingaa's genre, Kabali's is a godsend for the stylish scorcher called Rajini.
This July 1 release comes at a time when two much-hyped, super-budgeted, crazy Telugu movies starring two of Tollywood's biggest stars sank without a trace month after month. Moreover, in a long time, this is one dubbed superstar film from another film industry to be releasing amid huge expectations. What Sardaar Gabbar Singh and Brahmotsavam failed to give the Southern cinema, may Kabali do that!
