When a Rajinikanth movie releases, we all go thronging up with more fascinations and exhilarations to see Thalaivar performing the mass acts. But before watching Kabali, there were clear assumptions that it is going to be a class movie more than mass. This was my expectation while going to the theatres and the result is that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Kabali is not a 100% Mass Movie, but has its massive impact to enthrall Rajinikanth fans in places, but it travels more on the emotional grounds.
The film opens with Kabali (Rajinikanth) getting released after 25 years of imprisonment and he sets out to seek revenge upon the ones responsible for his life`s turmoil. But during the process decides to get united with his family. Meanwhile, the clashes are revoked again and the protagonist sets out to settle the scores to bump off the group that is a threat to entire country and society. Many attempts are made to kill Kabali… Would he survive their attacks?
First and foremost, don`t go to theatres with the mindset that you gained with the film`s teaser. It is completely different from what you would have imagined. I am sure Dhanu has played the trick of promoting the film for the commercial purpose. But what you see as a whole film is different from what was projected. But please don`t take all these factors into the minds while watching the film. For most of the portions would remain silent for it`s so much emotional. First 8 minutes of the film was so much tremendous that theatres were screaming up, but aftermath were emotional sequences. The scene where Rajinikanth is united with his wife and the moment, where he discovers his daughter amidst a critical situation is awesome. The interval scene is the ultimate twist and the post-intermission scene, where Rajinikanth says Rombha Kettavan Indha Kabali` reminds us off Ketta Paiyyan sir Indha Kaali` and the scene before climax, where Rajinikanth speaks about Tamilian in foreign countries is appealing. But the scenes involving the hero fighting for Tamilian rights doesn`t justify.
On the performance level, everyone has done their best. Especially Rajinikanth is the main show stopper and in every frame you admire his screen presence. Next it`s Nasser. Although small portions of episodes, he gets the best role and then it`s Kishore, the baddie. The climax act is little shocking, but since it ends with open ending, there is mixed feelings. Background score by Santhosh Narayan is awesome. The screenplay getting predictable in parts is little boring, but overall , it`s a decent film.
My only request to all fans would just don`t expect too much as hyped . Just watch as if you are about to watch Ranjith`s MADRAS, with the same mindset and then you`ll enjoy it, but over expectations will disappoint you. Doesn`t the film isn`t worth the expectations, but what you expected would have been a mass movie, but it`s class here.
Verdict: Please don`t go with high expectations.
