Coming from the stables of Akku Akbar -K Gireeshkumar team `Kaana Kanmani' isn't what you expect when you push off to the theatres. The movie is indeed a daring attempt to present a strong message, in the envelope of a family drama. The movie and the director succeeds in pushing the theme (in fact this is a remake of Akku's debut Hindi movie `Gouri -The Unborn' and its message with great impact, but apart from this, how much the movie succeeds in keeping you entertained all through, is a matter of debate.

The movie has Jayaram as Roy, a successful architect who is having a happy married life with a Brahman girl, Maya who is an interior designer. Their sweet routine in their cozy little apartment is immersed in short digs at each other religious beliefs and outings with their cute, brainy little daughter Anagha. Roy gets a chance for family tour to foreign countries, following the approval of his sketches for a township. But Anakha suddenly develops an interest to live some days in an old bungalow which she had seen only on photographs. In fact this mansion situated in a quite hill station was where her parents started their married life. On her insistence the threesome decides to start their tour plans from this bungalow. But hardly they knew that there was much more in stock for them in the quiet hamlet, that they never ever thought of in their wildest dreams.

The theme of the plot penned by the director about every conceived fetus having a right to live and its presentations are quite interesting, though it appears a little dragging in the later half. The dialogues by K Gireeshkumar are quite ordinary; though the child speaks a little excess of melodrama towards the climax. The director seems to try very hard to give the movie a fell of one made on ''no-nonsense material with genuine issues''. The highlight of the movie is that there are not much preachy dialogues or hard hitting speeches or the entry of a psychiatrist or Meta physicists to track the issue, in the later half.

Jayaram is quite cool in the tailor made role which fits him like anything. He blends his characteristic timing in serious and comic looks. Padmapriya once again proves that these kind of weighty characters of ''charming but desolate mother'' is more than safe in her hands. But it is Baby Nivedhitha as Anakha who steals the show with her easy adorable maneuvers, angelic looks and ever changing moods and faces.

The others in the cast including Nedumudi Venu, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Sukumari and Vijayaraghavan area apt in their roles, though the later impresses with his Thrissur accents. Vipin Mohan regain his prowess as a seasoned cameraman with varied tones and shots, especially the many top angle shots that he has etched to create the mystic effects. Ranjan Abraham could have applied his scissors a little more sharply in the latter half. The special effects are OK in some portions and are not palpable in others. Shyam Dharman has once again came up with some peppy music, the highlight being ''Muthe''.. which will be a sure chart topper.

Akku Akbar seems to have some noble intentions to make his viewers rethink about their life situations, after learning something from what is being shown on screen. Yes, this too like `Veruthe Oru Bharya' have the power to make you think a lot about something that may have happened in your life's or that of your friend's. Anyhow, `Kaana Kanmani' is definitely a passable fare. In the Box Office, it might end up as an average to hit, if supported with good promotionals.
