Now that Superstar Rajinikanth's 'Kaala' is making opening records across the globe the one person who is getting unanimous praise is Nana Patekar for bringing to life the chief antagonist Haridev Abayankar. Nana Patekar made his acting debut in the late 70s in Marathi films but it was much later in 1989 that he got noticed for his role as a psychopathic crime lord in 'Parinda' directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. One should say there was no looking back as he rose in fame as a consummate actor giving his best in films like 'Prahaar' , 'Khamoshi', 'Agni Sakshi', 'Khoram', 'Taxi Number 9211' and many others.

More than the glory as a film star it is Nana Patekar's social conscience that has made him a rare hero in real life. When Maharashtra was hit by a severe draught and farmers started committing suicide Nana went to their rescue spending 90 percent of his earnings to help them out. Knowing very well that the farmers are the backbone of the nation, the 67 year old actor requested them to think of him if the thought of suicide comes to their mind and call him and he would somehow help.

When the Mumbai Municipal Corporation decided to evict roadside vendors on the street, Nana Patekar took up for them and stated that it is the duty of the goverment to provide space for them and not disrupt their livelihood. He is one of the few actors in the entire country who does not hesitate to speak against the rulers and take voice support for any good movement.

Nana Patekar has won several National and Film Fare Awards and is rated as one of the greatest contemporary actor of Indian cinema but he continues to live a simple life in a small flat and spends most of his income for his society. Now isnt he the true hero in real life.
