Anjali Patil, renowned for her roles in films such as Rajinikanth's 'Kaala,' 'Mirzya,' and 'Newton,' recently became a victim of a cyber fraud, resulting in a substantial loss of Rs 5.79 lakh. The deceptive scheme unfolded when a fraudster, impersonating a Mumbai police officer, falsely claimed that a parcel destined for Taiwan, with her name on it, contained illicit drugs. Subsequently, Anjali's Aadhar card was implicated in the purported customs seizure. A formal police complaint has been filed at the DN Nagar Police Station, and an active investigation is underway.
The intricacies of Anjali Patil's financial setback reveal a sophisticated scam, emblematic of a broader trend affecting numerous celebrities in recent months. The unfolding of events began when Anjali, a resident of Mumbai's Andheri, received a call from an individual identifying as Deepak Sharma, purportedly an employee of DebEx Courier Company. Sharma conveyed the alarming news about narcotics discovered in a parcel designated for Taiwan, falsely linked to Anjali's Aadhar card. The ruse escalated as the scammer urged her to engage with the Mumbai Cyber Police.
Subsequently, Anjali received a Skype call from an individual claiming to be Officer Bannerjee from the Mumbai Cyber Police. This fraudster asserted that her Aadhar card was connected to three bank accounts entangled in a money laundering case. To ostensibly clear her name, the imposter demanded Rs 96,525 for a supposed verification process. Expanding the deceit, he implicated bank officials and coerced Anjali into transferring an additional Rs 4,83,291 to a specified Punjab National Bank account, under the pretext of resolving the fabricated case and evading potential legal consequences.
The realization of the scam unfolded only days later when Anjali, in conversation with her landlord, became aware of the orchestrated deception. This unfortunate incident underscores the prevalence of cyber fraud, emphasizing the critical need for vigilance and caution, even among well-known personalities, in navigating the complexities of the digital landscape.
