Kaaki Sattai Songs

The expectation for Anirudh’s works have grown bigger and wider after ‘Kaththi’, especially the younger generation are madly falling in love with his music. ‘Kakki Sattai’ is the second outing for team ‘Ethir Neechal’ and Anirudh is composing for the third time for a Siva Karthikeyan starrer. Let’s get in and analyze each track on its merit to find out what Anirudh serves on his seventh outing.

Kakki Sattai – Vishal Dadlani

Anirudh’s favorite singer opens the album with ultra explosive energy levels and one might feel that they have caught hold of a wrong album for the first few seconds as they carry real time cop conversations to suit the title track. The idea to make use of kids for ‘Pori Parakkudhey’ and ‘Theri Therikkudhey’ is a cool one and the composer sketched the rest of the track with blazing guitars and foot tapping drum beats.

Kaadhal Kan Kattudhe – Shakthishree Gopalan, Anirudh

Anirudh puts his most powerful side on display; an accentuated melody, which connects two different worlds and his choice to employ Shakthishree along with him is a master stroke. The track starts off pretty gently and Shakthishree keeps building the momentum slowly for 70 odd seconds and makes way for the magical interlude to let loose. The flutes with string section in the second half the song will keep you hooked for some more time before jumping to the next track.

Im So Cool – Anirudh, Siva Karthikeyan

Well, this track was making all the right noises for the last 3 days, since Anirudh shared its raw version on his official handle. The number carries the HIT tag right from the word go and it is destined to go viral with the Gen X. Anirudh seems to carry some hangover from ‘Kaththi’, ‘Bad Eyes’ theme as the flute portion and the chorus portion sounds similar in the background. But it has not affected the central theme and the groovy, ‘I’m so cool’ could well end up being the ringtone for many.

Kattikida – Anthony Dassen, Manasi, Anita

The album heads to a folk number and it works big time only because of Anthony Dassen. Anirudh is in no mood to let a genre to flow on its own and keeps mixing it with various flavors and that strategy hasn’t worked for this track. The song might do well with the visuals, but taking the audio into account, this is just an above average effort from the composer.

Shake That – Anirudh

Anirudh signs off with a heavy BGM-ish material. He has put himself in front of the mic one more time to deliver the final punch for the OST. Look out for the massy trumpet beats in the first and last twenty seconds of the song, and that alone will strike big with the youngsters. The album comes to an end with a truly international flavor.

Pick(s) of the album – Kakki Sattai, Kaadhal Kan Kattudhey, I’m so cool, Shake That

Verdict: Anirudh plays to his potential to continue his winning streak

Rating: 3.75/5
