Last year's blockbuster and the National award winning flick 'Kaaka Muttai' directed by Manikandan was showered with praises by critics and movie buffs upon its release. The film that subtly spoke volumes about the effects of globalization on third world countries like India with the backdrop of a slum and a pizza shop emerging nearby deserves to be treasured as a rare gem of Tamil cinema.

Now 'Kaaka Muttai' is heading for its first remake. While remaking successful films from other languages has been a common practice and a catching up trend in the South Indian and Bollywood film industries, 'Kaaka Muttai' will be remade in Marathi language.

The Marathi remake will be directed by Samit Kakkad and produced by Nanubhai Jaisinghani. The film will be shot in India's commercial capital Mumbai with a few minor changes and additions.
