Kaabil Review
Expectations
Hrithik Roshan made his mark with 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' and found its overnight superstardom. Sadly, most of his films post 'KNPH' failed miserably at the box-office. It was at that time, his father Rakesh Roshan came to his rescue by delivering a mass loving film 'Koi Mil Gaya'.
Whenever. Hrithik had a downside in his career, he always had Rakesh Roshan's films to get him back to the right track with the release of films like 'Krrish' or 'Krrish 3'. 'Kaabil' seems to be yet another career rescue film for Hrithik Roshan made under the production of his father Rakesh Roshan. The movie has a decent level of expectations riding over it, mainly due to the past history of Rakesh Roshan attached to it.
Story
'Kaabil' is a story of a blind voice-over artist Rohit Bhatnagar (Hrithik Roshan), who falls in love with a blind piano teacher Supriya Bhatnagar (Yami Gautam). Rohit marries Supriya and start living his dream life with her. Their life takes a drastic change with the arrival of Amit Shellar (Rohit Roy) and Wasim (Md. Sahidur Rahaman).
Rohit and Surpriya tries to seek justice, but fails miserably as Amit's elder brother Madhavrao Shellar (Ronit Roy) is a local politician. Tragedy strikes again, after which Rohit decides to take law in his own hands.
The 'Glitz' Factor
The first half has some sweet and refreshing romantic moments between Hrithik and Yami leading to a hard-hitting middle part followed by a thrilling second half. The climax goes perfectly well with the theme of the film. The tragic portions are handled brilliantly and connects with the audience. The dialogs are superb and goes well with the flow of the film.
The music of 'Kaabil' is decent with songs like 'Kaabil Hoon' and 'Kuch Din'.'Mon Amour' is a visual treat and will leave you with a big smile on your face. The choreography in this song is mind blowing. The background music goes perfectly with the flow of the film.
It's good to see Sanjay Gupta in such a restrained manner after a long time. He keeps his focus on the story telling and treatment of the film and hardly gets distracted over the usage of bad special effects. The action scenes are well choreographed and superbly placed in the film.
Despite of some loopholes and cinematic liberties, Sanjay Gupta satisfies his audience by delivering an engaging and entertaining film.
Hrithik Roshan is back in form and delivers a stellar performance. His body mannerisms, dance steps, emotional scenes and fights work as an additional merit to his performance in the film. Yami Gautam looks cute and sweet in her part.Ronit Roy is great in his part. Narendra Jha and Girish Kulkarni lend superb support.
The 'Non-Glitz' Factor
On the flip side the basic plot of the film is predictable and has been treated in a super slow manner. Everything is easily achievable in the film and despite of Hrithik leaving all fingerprints and clue at the crime spot, the cops seem to be clueless. These cinematic liberties dilute the impact of the film.
The pace keeps dropping in between with the arrival of Yami in the second half. The cinematography is decent, except for some badly executed C.G.I work used for the exterior shots.
'Haseeno Ka Deewana' featuring Urvashi Rautela fails to create the magic of its original song. Rohit Roy hams to the fullest.Suresh Menon is wasted.
Final 'Glitz'
If you like a masala entertainer with good performances, decent screenplay and restrained direction, then 'Kaabil' is totally worthy for sure. The realistic cinema lovers might find it hard to digest.
