K Viswanath conferred highest award

K Viswanath, the legendary director of such finest movies as 'Shankarabharanam', 'Sagarasangamam' and 'Swathi Kiranam', has been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Government of India for the year 2016. This is the highest cinema award in the country.

The last time a Telugu film personality got the award was late Dr. D Ramanaidu in the year 2009. Earlier, stalwarts like ANR, B Nagi Reddy and LV Prasad associated with Telugu cine industry had go the award.

The 'Kalatapasvi' will be given away by the award in a ceremony to be held at Rashtrapathi Bhawan on May 3. President Pranab Mukherjee will hand over the same.
