The 'Paruthiveeran' controversy is raging in Tamil cinema for the past few days after producer K.E. Gnanavelraja's harsh and insulting interview calling director Ameer an embezzler and saying he has no talent to make a successful movie.

'Paruthiveeran' released in 2007 marked the debut of actor Karthi the younger son of legendary actor Sivakumar and younger brother of top hero Suriya. The controversy arose when Gnanavelraja alleged that Ameer overshot the budget and the latter going to court claiming that the production house owed him rupees on crore. Though this is the gist of the issue there is much more below the surface which Ameer is slowly revealing in his YouTube interviews.

Several celebrities including director Bharathiraja, Samuthirakani, Karu Pazhaniappan, Sasikumar, Sudha Kongara, producers Aparajith Ganesh and Kumar and others have come out in support of Ameer.

Earlier this morning due to high pressure Gnanavelraja posted an apology note that translates to "The 'Paruthi Veeran' problem has been going on for the past 17 years. I haven't talked about it until this day. I will always refer to him as "Ameer Anna". I have been close to his family since the beginning. His false accusations against me in his recent interviews hurt me a lot. I am sincerely sorry if some of the words I used while replying offended him. Cinema makes me live. I really respect it and everyone who works in it. Thank you!"

Director Sasikumar a former associate director of Ameer and an investor in 'Paruthiveeran' slammed Gnanavelraja calling his apology a fake one. He wrote in Tamil "Truth cannot be sacrificed for false regret" and raised questions 'What are the charges leveled against Ameer Annan Gnanavel Raja? Gnanavel Raja says that if some of the words he has used are offensive, then what are those few words?"

Sasikumar added "What a pity to deliberately humiliate someone and the one who insulted feeling sorry for himself. What is Gnanavel Raja trying to tell Ameer through this? To whom is that untitled letter addressed to?

Tamil cinema industry insiders feel that a solution this issue will only be arrived if Sivakumar, Suriya and Karthi open up about the issue and hold talks with Ameer to solve the problem once and for all. The case that Ameer filed against Sivakumar, Suriya, Karthi and Gnanavelraja has been going on for the past seventeen years.
