Veteran film personality K. Bhagyaraj in an unexpected move today joined the AIADMK party in the presence of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam. It was reported that he was contemplating joining the BJP for a long time and his move has come as a sort of surprise in the film industry.
Bhagyaraj, hailed as one of India’s all time great screenwriters has dabbled in politics in the past by floating his own party MGR Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam in 1989. He later joined the Jayalalitha headed AIADMK and quit after some time. In 2006 he threw a surprise by joining the DMK in the presence of Kalaigniar M Karunanidhi which also did not last long.
The ADMK itself is in woes currently due to the cold war between EPS and OPS and Bhagyaraj aligning with the latter is also an interesting factor according to political analysts. The new entrant to the party has promised to do his best to mediate between factions and bring them together as he felt it is his duty as an ardent MGR admirer. It is worth mentioning that MGR declared Bhagyaraj as his heir in the film industry and was close to him till his death.
