Justice Kirupakaran laments lack of morality in legal profession

Justice Kirupakaran of the High Court of Madras has expressed his agony about the decaying morality in legal profession and has lamented the trend of advocates abandoning ethics and morality and showing keenness only to amass money.
High Court advocates Chandrasekaran, Tamilarasan and Muthuramalingam petitioned the Court yesterday requesting it to deliver a verdict soon in a case relating to the stipulations/regulations governing the election to elect the office-bearers of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Bar Council. After hearing their plea, Justice Kirupakaran agreed to deliver his verdict today (Friday).
Justice Kirupakaran, however, lamented the prevailing trend stating that ethics and morality in legal profession had been coming down gradually during the past 8 years. “Even senior advocates are keen only to ensure that they make huge money out of the profession,” the Judge said and added that it was ironical that a person, who was just a school drop-out, had procured M.A. from an Open University and become a lawyer.
“It is indeed agonizing and regrettable to note that a few retired Judges are also helping such advocates,” the Judge observed. On another note, the Judge recorded that the security environment within the High Court premises would have been very bad but for the presence of CISF personnel.
