Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Review

'Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom' the fifth film in the 'Jurassic  Park' series and the sequel to the 2015 monster hit 'Jurassic World'.  If you thought it is the same old ride in the park this one will surprise you with its varied action set pieces and some interesting (at least one) twist in the screenplay.

Starting off from where the original story ended the Isla Nublar is going to be blown away by a massive volcano eruption which would completely wipe out the cloned dinosaurs housed there.  Our heroes Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt) are enlisted by billionaire's estate to rescue some of the species to be set free in another habitat.  No prices for guessing that sinister motives are at play and what happens next is what the screenplay is all about.

Chris Pratt brings a casual air to Owen and the moment he appears on screen the crowd gets behind him.  He has a lot to do from outwitting the prehistoric creatures to fist fighting with armed men and in between throw in some romance with Howard apart from bonding with his raptor friend Blue and the girl Maisie.  Bryce Dallas Howard reprises her role from the original as Claire and she is earnest throughout one should say.   Isabella Sermon as the little girl Maisie is likeable and no one can see the twist in her character which is one of the high points of the screenplay serving emotionally as well as adding intrigue.  Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith as the doctor and hacker respectively provide some comic relief moments.  Rafe Spall as the chief antagonist and James Cromwell as  Mr. Lockwood with his own sinister secret are apt while Ted Levine as the mercenary makes his mark.

What works best in 'Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom' is that right from the beginning the action keeps moving from one set piece to another and there is variety in it.  You get a breathtaking volcanic eruptions with the lava sending people and the prehistoric beings running for their lives together.  The underwater Mosasaurus sends the spine chilling in the begining itself with very little of it shown.  The little girl Maisie and the twist in her character makes an impact.  One cute scene that is remarkable is the one in which Chris Pratt gets a dino to break his prison wall and not only facilitate his and Howard's escape but also get the bad guys flying.

On the downside though this film is supposed to have the most number of dinosaur species none of them seem to do anything more than baring their teeth, screeching and stomping and gobbling.  We mean its the fifth film and they should show some slight signs of evolution.  The multiple escapes by the lead pair and the little girl separately and together test the limits of belief.

Writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly have scored big in setting up one action after the other and director J.A Bayona has executed it without much blemishes.  The CG work and other technical aspects are top notch making it a worthwhile watch.

Verdict : Go for it to enjoy a familiar dino park ride ith a few interesting twists and breathtaking visuals.
