Suriya’s NEET statement is contempt of court, alleges judge!

A Madras High Court judge has alleged Suriya of Contempt of Court following his recent statement on NEET. After three students in Tamil Nadu died by suicide due to their fears over NEET exam, the actor shared a strong note on his social media page voicing out against NEET.

In his note, Suriya had written “The court delivers justice via video conferencing because of corona scare but orders students to appear exams without fear.”  Quoting this, Madras High Court judge Justice SM Subramaniam has written a letter to Chief Justice of Madras High Court to initiate contempt proceedings against Suriya. 

Justice SM Subramaniam’s letter reads “The Statement reveals that the Hon’ble Judges are afraid of their own life and rendering justice through video conferencing. While-so, they have no morale to pass orders directing the students to apper for NEET Exam without fear. The said statement in my considered opinion amounts to contempt of Court as the integrity and devotion of the Hon’ble Judges as well as the Judicial System of our Great Nation are not only undermined but criticised in a bad shape, wherein there is threat for the public confidence on the Judiciary.Thus,the cine actor Mr.Surya has committed contempt, warranting contempt proceedings to uphold the Majesty of our Indian Judicial System.”
