The recent Jubilee Hills gang-rape case, in which four minors and one adult have been accused, has become a sensation of sorts. Every detail of the primary investigation by the police has been broadcast.
A Telugu news channel has reported that the accused, during police interrogation, have confessed to having been influenced by the dark and negative content in English-language web series available on streaming platforms.
They have admittedly been influenced by the adult content on OTT platforms. The channel reports that web series are uncensored and therefore, are prone to be watched in an unfiltered manner. From expletives to violence, from a detailed depiction of criminal activities to violence against women, English-language web series portray things in unwarranted detail.
"In the past, feature films used to show stalking and girls being teased. But now, web series show how to trap girls, how to seduce them and worse. They are degenerate," the story says.
The rape accused completed their Intermediate bored exams and befriended two girls with the intention of trapping them. One of them didn't fall into their trap.
