For Sankranthi 2004, 'Andhrawala' hit the screens amid high expectations. But the film became a damp squib, turning out to be one of the biggest disasters in Jr NTR's career.
Producer Avula Giri has spoken to IndiaGlitz about the failure and what he thinks is the reason for it. "The first reason is that Tarak had delivered a huge hit in the form of 'Simhadri' just months ago. The second reason is the audio function of 'Andhrawala' that was conducted amid unprecedented fanfare. As many as 15 lakh people attended it at Nimmakuru. The event triggered 'dishti'. You shouldn't do hungama on such a huge scale," the producer said.
He added, "The event was so massive that Tarak had to be lifted by his guards for half a kilometer to help him reach the dias. Even the likes of Suresh Babu garu and K Raghavendra Rao garu couldn't reach the dias. There was a traffic jam and several celebs were stuck up as hundreds of vehicles were jammed for hours. Namitha and Rakshita had to walk for kilometers on foot."
The producer said that special trains, about 100 buses, and hundreds of cars were deployed to ferry people to the event.
