Gauri Lankesh, a Bengaluru-based journalist and founder-editor of a tabloid, was on Tuesday night shot-dead by unidentified men at her Rajarajeshwari Nagar residence.

"We learnt that the victim was shot dead from close range when she was standing at her house around 8.00 p.m. Three bullets hit her on the neck and chest," a report quoting a police officer says.

The civil society and political dignitaries have expressed shock over the gruesome murder.

Mamata Banerjee, the CM of West Bengal, tweeted, "Saddened at the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru. Most unfortunate. Very alarming. We want justice."

Pinarayi Vijayan, the Kerala CM, tweeted, "Shocked to hear that the brave Journalist-Activist Gauri Lankesh has been shot dead in Bengaluru. Culprits should be nabbed at the earliest."

Let's see if Siddaramaiah, the CM of Karnataka, who has already set up investigation teams, will ensure that the case is brought to its logical conclusion.
