Journalist Gauri Lankesh shot dead, it is shocking

Known for firebrand journalism from Lankesh Patrike` – editor Gauri Lankesh was shot dead from two unidentified persons in front of her residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagara busy residential locality of Ideal Homes. Out of seven bullets fired three entered the body of Gauri Lankesh that resulted in on the spot death.

Gauri Lankesh is eldest daughter of illustrious writer and director P Lankesh, Gauri is elder sister of two Kannada film directors Kavitha Lankesh and Indrajith Lankesh. Gauri Lankesh did not enter the film field and remained as a strong author of a few books and her columns in Lankesh Patrike` were like storm.

A huge protest is registered today by media on Thursday condemning the killing of Gauru Lankesh. The Home Ministry has constituted three special teams. Central Crime Branch, have been formed to trace the killers and the motive for the murder. The teams will be supervised by MN Anucheth, DCP (West). From the CCTV footage the vehicle registration number has been identified.

The RR Nagar police have registered a case of murder (IPC 302) and also under the Arms Act against the unidentified accused. Lankesh`s body was taken to Victoria Hospital mortuary.

Gauri Lankesh hailing from Shivamogga district grown up in Bengaluru with a graduation in Arts moved to New Delhi to pursue journalism. After masters degree she was a correspondent from France and USA. In the journalism field for over 25 years Gauri Lankesh took over Lankesh Patrike` – Kannada journalism. She was also head of Guide` publishing house. She has translated the works English, French and Hindi. She is also author of review collection of Aavarana` of Dr SL Byrappa. Gauri Lankesh Kandahaage` was a strong column that had raised eyebrows. She is a thinker, social activist and supported the movement of Naxals.
