Johnny Depp has revealed that he has tried to talk his latest movie's director out of having him in a leading role.
He also played the character of King Louis XV of France in the period drama "Jeanne Du Barry" during the UK premiere on Monday night in London. This heralds Dejson's big screen after the US actor settled a high-profile defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year.
"Jeanne Du Barry" tells about the life of one simple woman who, with the help of her mind and charm, managed to improve her social level up to the interest of the king. Leading French actress Maiwenn, who also co-authored and directed the film, played the main title character. On the red carpet, Depp told his interlocutors about the first surprise from the offer to join the crew and be part of the project.
Speaking with the audience, Depp reflected on his Owensboro, Kentucky, roots, and just not in his wildest dreams could he have seen himself playing the King of France, for which he congratulated the director on his courageous choice.
"Jeanne Du Barry" had a seven-minute ovation from the crowd when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023. This film is Depp's biggest comeback on the screens after wading through legal battles with Heard and The Sun newspaper in the UK. He, however, came out victorious in the United States but lost the UK case, where a judge ruled she had been beaten by Depp during the time of their relationship.
