Joe Biden, Obama's former vice president, is all set to face off against president Donald Trump in the 2020 US presidential election that is set to happen on November 3. After Bernie Sanders dropped out of the presidential race last week, 77-year-old democratic candidate Joe Biden is the party's only presumptive nominee left to contest against Donald Trump. Biden was Obama's vice president from January 2009 to January 2017.
"If we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and watch that happen," Biden once stated. Formed President Obama has now endorsed Joe Biden for president, claiming that his experience as a vice president will help him guide the American people to confront the public health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that is likely to decide the fate of the 2020 presidential election.
In a 12-minute video that was released on Tuesday, Obama stated, "Choosing Joe to be my vice-president was one of the best decisions I ever made, and he became a close friend and I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a president right now." He further added, "Joe has the character and the experience to guide us through one of our darkest times, and heal us through a long recovery. And I know he’ll surround himself with good people."
As Biden lost his first wife and daughter in a car accident in 1972, and in 2015, his son Beau Biden died of brain cancer, heath care remains one of his top priorities. According to a report, Biden, also a former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, speaks passionately about asserting and defending America's role as a leader on the global stage. He also served for decades in the Senate and firmly believes in the value of bipartisanship and insists on extending overtures to Republicans even in a moment when many in his own party don't see negotiating partners on the other side.
