Venkata Lakshmi, the singer of 'Jigelu Rani' song from 'Rangasthalam', has been in the news after she recently said that she never received any payment for the blockbuster song.
When sections of electronic media highlighted her cause, the makers of the Ram Charan film contacted her through Sukumar's office and gave her a huge money. "I am happy that they have rendered justice to me," the stage artist from Visakha district said.
There was a time when the singer, who runs a kirana store in her village, had doubts as to whether the song will be retained in the movie. "But Devi Sri Prasad garu assured me that the song will be a huge hit for sure. I am proud to have sung the song, but I feel a bit bad that I haven't got due recognition," she said.
How did she land the offer? "I have been a 'Burra Katha' artist since childhood. DSP garu and Sukumar garu selected me after seeing one of my 'Burra Katha' expositions. I never asked them any remuneration. I am looking forward to singing more songs. I have already been offered a couple of songs in the past few days," she revealed.
