Ji
Linguswami after Anandam a family entertainer shifted to action with `Run'. Run gave Madhavan the shift from the romantic hero to action. Now Linguswami teams up with Ajit Kumar and Trisha for the film `Ji'.Produced by S S Chakravarty for NIC Arts, the film revolves around students and politics, the hero playing the student leader who protects students from being exploited by unscrupulous politicians.
The supporting cast has Vijaykumar, Charanraj, Venkat Prabhu, Ilavarasu Manivannan, Krishnamurthy, Arun, Vamsi, Pawan and Vinod Kumar, a popular actor in Telugu films. Linguswami is known to spin unique themes. Anandam with Mamooty playing the head of a joint family who is misunderstood by his own kith and kin was a big hit with the common man especially the rustic folk. Detriment not to be typecast, Linguswami shifted to a city based action entertainer. He cast Madhavan in the central role of a youth who loves the sister of a gangster. Breaking the mould of a big built villain he cast Atul Kulkarni a lean rugged looking man instead. The youth single handedly using his brain more than brawn against the gangsters went down well with the youth.
The unit of `JI' was on a stint of shooting schedule at Karaikudi where a campus set designed by art director Maniraj was erected. At the college campus a fight scene was filmed. Politicians use college students for their own ends. The students see through the game and realize that they're being made scapegoats, they rebel and attempt to reform. The politicians send rowdies to attack them. Coming to their rescue is the hero, who teaches a lesson to the rowdies and their masters. Twenty stunt men and a crowd of 1,000 junior artistes took part in the fight scene, choreographed by Super Subbarayan. Five songs are left to be pictured. Music is by Vidyasagar, two of the songs are to be shot abroad.
Raju Sundaram is the choreographer.
Cranking the camera is Arthur Wilson and editing is by V T Vijayan.
