Jet Airways pilots threaten to go on indefinite leave

Jet Airways' pilots haven't been paid their salaries for the last three months. Despite repeated requests, the distressed airline company's management has not honored the payment.

As a result, the pilots have said that they will launch a strike or go on indefinite leave from April 1 if their dues are not cleared before March 31. The pilots have written a letter to the company's CEO, saying that there has been no communication from the management in a transparent and fair way.

What ails the company?

Rising costs are the main culprit. Jet Airways hasn't been able to pay lease rentals to aircraft lessors. Even interest payment on its debts has stood defaulted since December.

The airline's creditors, a consortium of lenders led by State Bank of India recently took control of the company. A bidding process will be initiated soon and it is expected to be completed by June. Jet Airways needs Rs 1,500 crore immediately.
