You can never accuse Jennifer Lopez of taking herself too seriously. In her latest film, "This Is Me... Now: A Love Story," now streaming on Amazon Prime, cheekily gives free rein to her astrological penchant and well-documented romance addiction. At the film's February 13 premiere at the Dolby Theater in LA, aka Galentine's Day, she embraced the celestial theme fully, donning a black sheer dress bedecked in stars just like her husband and muse, Ben Affleck.
Speaking to the audience, which included Xochitl Gomez and Becky G, who appear in the film, along with executive producer America Ferrera, Lopez choked up as she talked about the 20-year road that led her to making the film and recording the album. Someone tried to console her in the audience, saying, "It's okay." She replied, with a laugh, "It is so okay!
She equated the journey of making the film to getting on track with a workout routine, a sentiment that landed on some ears. Saying she hoped the film and album brought hope, joy, and inspiration to others, she thanked Affleck for inspiring the project, though adding a punchline about his comfort level with being thanked by her.
Lopez also enjoyed the enthusiasm of director Dave Meyers over the project, saying that it made the film feel like a "mini Marvel movie," something considered with its cartoon scenes, furious fight scene, and all of the celebrity cameos.
As the crows called after every song and the credits rolled, Lopez got a standing ovation for her debut in the Jennifer Lopez Cinematic Universe (JLCU). Dancing, singing, and sharing a tender moment with Affleck, it couldn't get any realer if she could dream of this.
