Till just the other day, nobody knew Jennifer Haller. A 43-year-old woman, she was leading her life happily with her two children. Then, most recently, she came across a Facebook post, which said that scientists in Washington were looking for a volunteer who would be ready to take a vaccine for COVID-19 as part of human trials.
Jennifer immediately enrolled herself to become the first person in history to test a potential vaccine for COVID-19. Her name has since been mentioned with gratitude by many across the world. So also the names of 44 other volunteers, who have since joined the experiment as volunteers.
We owe her and 44 other people stepping up for human trials a debt of gratitude – may their bravery save many lives. A moment that will hopefully prove historic in the best way, a Twitter user says.
Talking about her readiness to be a volunteer, Jennifer says, “We all feel so helpless. This is an amazing opportunity for me to do something.
Note that the vaccine, if successful, is estimated to take at least a year and up to 18 months to be released for public consumption. A shout out to researchers and the scientific community as well!
