Chakravarthy entered into the film industry through 'Siva' directed by Ramgopal Varma and became famous with the name of the character JD and turned JD Chakarvarthy.

He played villain in some of the films and after earning some recognition, turned a hero. He continued to do films as hero for sometime and suddenly disappeared from the Telugu screen.

He later surfaced in a Bollywood flick 'Satya'. Like this, he started appearing as an artiste in a couple of films and suddenly became a director from Varma's Film Factory.

He played hero with Amani in the female lead for 'Madhyahnam Hatya' under his own direction. However, that film remained an average flick.

According to sources, he is presently directing a film with Jagapatibabu as hero. It was also learnt that 'Homam' is the title under consideration for the movie and JD was quite confident on the success of the movie. According to sources from Film Nagar, the subject was also liked by Jagapatibabu.
