Actress Jayaprada who was one of the leading heroines of Indian cinema inthe 1980s has acted in a few Tamil films such as 'Ninaithale Inikkum', '47 Naatkal' and 'Ezhai Jaadhi'. After many years she made a comeback to Tamil films with Kamal Haasan's 2008 blockbuster 'Dasavatharam'. Now again after almost a decade, Jayapradha is acting in a Tamil film titled as 'Keni'. This film directed by Malayalam filmmaker MA Nishad will also have R.Parthiban in an important role.

The film is about the dispute over water sharing between the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala when Kerala was formed as a separate state.

It is a period film set in 1956.As the border between TN and Kerala was drawn, a well becomes the source of conflict between the two states. Jayaprada comes as the resident of the house in which the well exists while Parthiban comes as person who helps resolve the conflict.

it is said that this film being made by a Malayalam filmmaker will speak for the rights of Tamils in the sharing of water. The film will be an analogy of Mullai-Periyar dam issue between the two neighbouring states.

'Keni' also has Nassar and Thalaivasal Vijay playing important supporting roles.
