Actor-politician Jaya Bachchan voiced her annoyance in parliament today when the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, Harivansh Narayan Singh, called her "Jaya Amitabh Bachchan." Jaya answered angrily, grabbing the chance to express her own personality.

Called to speak on Monday in a parliament session, Harivansh responded, "Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan ji, please." Jaya corrected him fast, adding, "Sir, sirf Jaya Bachchan bolte to kaafi hojata (It would have been enough to name me Jaya Bachchan). It was made clear that this is her registered name formally.

" Ye jo hain kuch naya tarika hain ki mahilaayen apni pati ke naam se jaani jaye," Jaya said. Unka koi astitva nahi. Unki koi upalabdhhi nahi hain; apne mein aur astitva nahi hain. Ye jo naya shuru hua hain, just...(Some fresh approach has surfaced whereby women have to be identified by the name of their husbands. Women do not have any identification. They lack achievements and no personal identity. This new item, I simply…)

Viewers responded to the video; many praised her bravery. One asked, "No but, why was Amitabh added? Should she not have added, who else is doing? It is happening for everyone. Still another said, "She's not wrong in any sense btw."

A supporter pointed out the sexist remarks, commenting, "People today are so selective." Had another woman taken her place, the comments would have supported her. She is not mistaken either. She was a successful actress too before she turned into a "Bachchan". How far we have come, indeed.

Once speaking to Her Circle in 2021, Jaya's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda once said that her grandmother inspired her. She remarked, "I go to her for nearly anything, whether personal or work-related guidance; I am quite close to her. She has been able to establish her own mark and individuality. Her use of her voice for activities she is enthusiastic about is among the most important things I appreciate about her. She has a spine and has always been unreserved, to the point unedited.
