BVS Ravi is back as the director after a long time. Come Dec 1, his 'Jawaan' will hit the screens.
In this interview, Ravi talks about the film's premise, the DRDO backdrop of the story, why the hero is an RSS man, and more.
What kind of a film is 'Jawaan'?
The Trailer of our film clearly shows as to what we are going to tell in the movie. But we haven't revealed the main element of the film. The second half is full of many dramatic and thrilling moments.
What is unique about the film's premise?
I have chosen the backdrop of DRDO for the film. The organization is quite indispensable for our national security. But not many may be knowing how paramount it is.
So, how does the DRDO come into picture in the context of this film?
There is a missile by name Octopus with DRDO. The villain (played by Prasanna) steals it. How the hero nabs the antagonist is the crux.
What is the hero's character?
Sai Dharam Tej is playing an RSS 'jawaan' in the movie. I have made it clear in the posters itself. We haven't criticized anybody here. The reason why I chose the RSS backdrop for the hero is that I wanted it to be new. What a middle-class man does when his nation and family need security is what is interesting about the subject.
Tej has changed over into an apt look for the film. Hitherto, he had played largely jovial roles. But in 'Jawaan', his role will be more serious. Our hero is someone who will be there to solve any problem. It needs a lot of guts to do such a character.
Why have you chosen RSS, the cultural organization, to establish the hero's character?
The reason why I have chosen RSS identity for the hero is that it's an organization that has worked for equality among all castes since even before independence. I learned that RSS people have eaten together (regardless of cast, creed, etc) from the beginning.
What idea of the nation does 'Jawaan' promote?
An elderly man once told me that the nation is about being together. In my film, there is a dialogue that says that we may have separate goals for ourselves, but our collective goal should be the nation.
What about Mehreen's character?
Mehreen is playing a bubbly character by name Bhargavi. She even dominates the hero. She is even more glamorous in 'Jawaan' than in her previous movies.
Why did you choose Prasanna?
I approached Prasanna garu after taking the advice of Kona Venkat garu and Gopi Mohan garu. When he heard the story, he was ready to give as many dates as we wanted. I am lucky to have got to work with such a talented actor.
Gladly, I have got to work with all good performers and technicians.
What is the inspiration for making the film?
There is no inspiration as such for this movie. I have penned it by taking inspiration from a friend who has withstood a lot of obstacles in life. It's not like he is a 'jawaan'. But he never gave up.
