Veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar is known to be very frank with his political opinions. This is why he often faces wrath of social groups who don't share his sentiments. Recently, Javed faced flak after he compared Taliban with right wing extremist groups like RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal. Apparently, this statement agitated the youth wing of BJP and its members protested outside Javed's home in Juhu.

One of the protestors said, "RRS helps everyone in time of need and he has compared them to the Taliban. He must apologise. It is very condemnable that despite being a very sensible person, Javed Akhtar has given such a statement." Reportedly, Javed also said something to the effect that although India is officially a secular state and most of its citizens live by that code, people who support RSS and similar organizations share the belief of 1930s era Nazis.

Javed Akhtar is also facing a legal battle against Kangana Ranaut for defamation.
