Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has overtaken captain Virat Kohli to become BCCI's highest paid cricketer of 2020.

Bumrah, who is arguably one of the top bowlers of the country, earned Rs 1.38 crore in match fees during the course of the year, which is the highest among the players who represented the Indian team this year. Virat Kohli would have topped the list if he had played the ongoing Boxing Day test match against Australia. The skipper left the series midway after he sought paternity leave from the management. According to the guidelines by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an Indian cricketer earns Rs 15 lakh for every Test match along with Rs 6 lakh for every One-day International match while the players earn Rs 3 lakh for a T20I game. This sum does not include the money paid by the BCCI to the players as a part of their annual contract fee. Bumrah has participated in 4 Tests, 9 ODIs and 8 T20Is this year while Kohli, who is placed second in the list with earnings of Rs 1.29 crore, has featured in 3 Tests, 9 ODIs and 10 T20Is.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who earned Rs 96 lakh, has grabbed the third spot after playing 2 Tests, 9 ODIs and 4 T20Is in 2020. Rohit Sharma, however, did not make it to the top five as he had to opt out of several matches due to his fitness issues. Having played only 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is in 2020, the batsman drew a cheque of Rs 30 lakh. Reliable batsman Ajinkya Rahane and young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant are placed at the 4th and 5th positions with earnings of Rs. 60 lakh and Rs. 57 lakh respectively.
