Japan's Defense Minister Tomomi Inada announced her resignation, which was accepted by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, over her alleged involvement in suppressing the release of sensitive defense files relating to dangers faced by Japanese peacekeepers in South Sudan. This is the latest blow to Abe's Cabinet.
She stepped down the same day that investigation findings on the alleged cover-up were released; Inada denies all allegations. Inada is the second woman to have held this position and was touted to be the first female prime minister.
