The BJP walked out of their alliance with PDP resulting in possible Governor's rule in Jammu & Kashmir. It was a wobbly teaming up right from the start and it has ended just as expected with Chief Minister Mehabooba Mufti handing over her resignation. The People's Democratic Party had won 28 seats in the 2014 elections with BJP supporting them with the 25 they had to show majority.
The National Conference headed by Omar Abdullah has 15 seats but the leader has ruled out any possiblity of offering support as he stated " I am not celebrating but mouning the death of democracy, we had no mandate in 2014 and dont have it in 2018.
The rift between BJP and PDP widened after the rape and murder of 8 year old girl in Kathua and the former supporting the accused men and even participating in a rally for them. The BJP refused the Ramzan ceasefire in anti terrorist operations after senior journalist Shujaat Bhukaari was shot dead along with security gaurds in Srinagar and a soldier was also kidnapped and killed on his way to celebrate Eid at his home.
