Generally the first day of Assembly sessions after the death of an important leader of the state will be concluded with the Governor's homage speech.

This year's first session of Tamil Nadu State Assembly has started today and this is the first one after the death of Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha on December 5, 2016.

The Ordinance that has been passed by Tamil Nadu Government to conduct Jallikattu by amending the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been tabled in the Assembly. It will be passed as an Act after discussion over the bill.

Chief Minister O Panneer Selvam had promised that the Ordinance will be tabled in the Assembly on January 23, 2017 and he has now lived up to his promise.

This give more strength to the Ordinance favoring Jallikattu. After this the protesters stay put at Chennai Marina are expected to withdraw their protests.

This is certainly a victory for Jallikattu protesters especially the students and youngsters who have spent almost a week at Marina unrelentingly.

At present, retired Justice Hari Paranthaman is explaining the contents of the ordinance to the protesters at Marina.

Raghava Lawrence, RJ Balaji and a few others have addressed the people in Marina and requested them to end the protest. Many other film industry celebrities including Superstar Rajinikanth have requested the same.
