Jailbird Sasikala, who is serving a term of 4-year rigorous imprisonment in the misappropriation of assets case and who is out on parole for 5 days, visited her estranged husband Natarajan at a Chennai Hospital where the 74-year old had been undergoing treatment for close to a month now.
Natarajan was admitted for liver and kidney failure at the Global Hospital in Chennai last month and doctors declared that he could survive only by organ replacement. The kidney and liver were acquired from Karthik, a Aranthangi youth who was declared ‘brain-dead’ at the Hospital (in what was an unbelievable coincidence). The organ transplantation surgery was performed last week.
Natarajan continues to remain in intensive coronary care unit and has been put on life-support system. More than 48 hours have gone past since the surgery and it is now believed that Natarajan’s body had ‘accepted’ the liver and kidney which were transplanted via surgical procedure. He still continues to be under artificial respiration and might remain so for the next few weeks.
Jailbird Sasikala, who hadn’t been living with her husband for the past 35 years and who didn’t re-unite with him even after the mysterious demise of her former boss and former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa, cited his health condition to seek parole for 5 days apparently to take a breather from the prison life. Allowed to remain at the Hospital only from 09:00 a.m. till 05:00 p.m., she visited him yesterday.
