Suriya's new movie 'Jai Bhim' has once again put Tamil cinema on the world map and is continuing to win laurels from viewers on Amazon Prime Video and the international media. It has broken into the numero uno position on IMDB rankings toppling the long time Hollywood cult classic 'The Shawshank Redemption' considered to be the best movie ever filmed.
Back home its life as usual and 'Jai Bhim' is the target of a few political outfits, especially the PMK. The party feels that the film hurts the sentiments of the Vanniyar community and in particular is miffed by a killer cop being named Gurumurthy. Sithamalli Pazhaniswamy the district leader of PMK in Mayiladudurai lodged a complaint against Suriya in commissioners office. Speaking to newspersons he raved that the cop character in 'Jai Bhim' refers to their late leader Kaduvetti Guru and the party will not take it lightly.
Pazhaniswamy pointed out that like how Vijay Sethupathi was attacked by a peron at the Bengaluru airport he would like the youngsters in his party to do likewise to Suriya. He has announced a reward of rupees one lakh to anyone who attacks the leading actor if he goes to Mayiladudurai.
Meanwhile Vanniyar Sangam leader Arul Mozhi has sent a lawyer notice to Suriya demanding rupees five crores as compensation for hurting his community within seven days.
Suriya plays the real life based advocate Chandru's character in 'Jai Bhim' who strives for justice to a Irular tribal widow whose husband accused of a false crime is brutally murdered in custody .
