The shoot of Megastar Mammootty's much-awaited movie 'CBI5' is progressing. Recently, Mammootty joined the sets of the fifth installment in the CBI films series and the video of the same had gone viral on the internet. Ever since the project went on floors, there have been reports doing the rounds that all the major characters of the franchise will be returning in the upcoming movie. While Mukesh will be stepping into the shoes of cop Chacko, the latest that we hear is DYSP Vikram played by Jagathy Sreekumar too will be appearing in the upcoming film!
Veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar has been away from showbiz after encountering a major accident in 2012. Though he had appeared in an advertisement last year, the upcoming investigative thriller CBI5 will mark his re-entry into movies. As the actor is yet to completely recover from the accident, the makers will be filming Jagathy's portions at his residence in Trivandrum. As the moviebuffs have been impatiently waiting to see Jagathy back on the silver screen, the latest news have cheered fans and cinephiles alike.
Tentatively titled as ‘CBI-5’, the movie's script is penned by SN Swamy who had revealed that the ‘CBI’ film will revolve around ‘basket killing’. The first CBI film, 'Oru CBI Diary Kurippu', was released in 1988 and it was immediately followed by a sequel, 'Jagratha', in 1989. Mammootty's lead character Sethurama Iyer, a brilliant investigative officer, is one of his career-best characters. As both the movies were super hits, the makers, after a gap of 15 years, did the third part of the movie, 'Sethurama Iyer CBI' in 2004, and a fourth part, 'Nerariyan CBI', in 2005. However, the third and fourth were an average hit at the box-office. All the four films were helmed by K Madhu and scripted by SN Swamy, who promised that the fifth installment will be one of the best ever thrillers that Malayalam cinema has produced till date. The franchise also stars Renji Panicker, Soubin Shahir, Asha Sharath, Sai Kumar, and many others. It is said that the movie will have new-age elements in it, however, Mammootty's character styling, mannerism, etc will remain the same.
