Jagapathi to do 'Gaayam-2'

We knew that the currency of sequels is great these days. But, when a serious, true sequel is being made, we have to sit and take notice. 'Gaayam' was a film that was a massive hit and established Jagapathi Babu almost 15 years ago in a big way (though the film itself was not as big a hit as Kshana Kshanam or Shiva). In the year 2010, the same Durga who intimidated us on the screen in that Ram Gopal Verma's edge-of-the-seat film on gang wars and brutal killings, is coming back.

The film will be directed by Praveen Sri, a disciple of RGV. In the film, Jagapathi will be named Durga again and it will essentially be a chronicle of how Durga lives 15 years since. Jagapathi acted wtih Revathi and Urmila Matondkar in the original. The star cast of the second part is not yet decided.

What could be reason for making a true sequel to Gaayam? Mr. Babu's 'Siddham' with JD Chakravarthy this year has certainly proved that the 40 plus actor is still in full form when it comes to acting in serious and powerful characters. Did 'Siddham' prod the debutante to work on a story that is primarily an extension of Gaayam?

It will be a unique kind of sequel because in the past no other film has seen a sequel made after 15 years. One wishes Praveen and Jagapathi all the best!

'Vaade Kaavaali' releasing on December 11

Seems that Vaade Kaavaali's release is happening earlier than we expected. Coming on December 11, the film is releasing just a week preceding the release of more popular ones like Adurs and Leader. But, never mind. The producers seem to be cocksure that Sairam Shankar, whose film Bumper Offer has been declared a hit, will pull through the film by his sheer presence.
