A portal will be developed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to enable the online ticketing for cinema theatres. The government, in its GO, suggested that the ticketing will be streamlined for transparency.
"Government after careful examination of the procedure of the sale of tickets in the cinema theatres, hereby orders to develop a portal for online booking of cinema tickets on the lines of Railway Online Ticketing System," the official statement says.
The statement adds that the online ticketing system will be managed by the Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation.
The Principal Secretary of the Home Department will chair a committee that will work on developing a blueprint.
There are speculations that the portal will be overarching in its sweep. There will not only be streamlining but also more than that. "Producers and distributors may have to wait till the end of the month to get their monies from the government," a report speculates.
On the face of it, it may not be possible for the government to collect the revenue and hold it for several weeks. The ticketing system usually doesn't work that way.
