The ongoing Jacto Geo strike that has been happening across the state has resulted in huge traffic issues in busy cities like Chennai. The state government employees have been on a strike since January 22, in connection with issues like pension and arrears payment.
Following the announcement made few days back by the joint action committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers organisation and Government employees organisation, the TN government employees and teachers have been involved in an indefinite strike from Tuesday across Tamil Nadu, and they have been insisting on the removal of complementary pension scheme, and settlement of 21 months arrears as per the seventh pay commission.
Despite warnings issued by the state Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan that the participation in the strike would be a punishable offence the employees have been strong in their protest, and today, the protest intensified leading to blockage of roads, and impacted traffic across the state, with Chennai being affected the most. Many busy areas of Chennai have been impacted by the strike and there is huge traffic which is becoming uncontrollable and it has been expected that there will be more arrests today as well. Yesterday more than 300 government employees were arrested at places like Tiruvarur, Avinashi and Mannargudi.
