'Jaanu' flops in a big way

'Jaanu' has put a spanner in the wheel of the careers of both Sharwanand and Samantha Akkineni. The romantic drama, directed by C Premkumar, was a below-average performer in its first weekend. And, as per trade reports, it has failed the Monday test rather badly.
Soon after Day 1, the film started losing its momentum across the spectrum. "This remake has been a dull performer across territories. The biggest shock has to be its subpar performance in the US," a source comments.
A breakeven of Rs 21 Cr looks too impossible for the movie in retrospect. "Dil Raju's films are usually safe bets. 'Jaanu' is the rarest of rare flops in the producer's otherwise super-successful track record," the source adds.
In total contrast, the Tamil original '96', which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha, grossed Rs 50 Cr at the box-office when it released in 2018.
