Is the Narendra Modi government planning to pass an Ordinance to scrap Article 35A and Article 370? No, if a credible voice is to be believed.
Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik had a meeting with a delegation of political leaders led by former J&K CM Omar Abdullah. Post the meeting, he said, "Security force movement is to counter the heightened threat perception and some rotation. It has nothing to do with the state government or modifying any constitutional provisions. I have informed the delegation that the security situation has developed in a manner which requires immediate action. There were credible inputs which were available to the security agencies regarding terrorist attacks on Amarnath Yatra."
However, Omar Abdullah is not convinced. "We told the Governor that there are rumours about Article 35A, Article 370, delimitation and even trifurcation. He assured us that in all these issues, no preparation is being made for any announcement. But the Governor isn't the final word on J&K. The final word on J&K is the Government of India. Therefore, more than what the Governor tells us publicly, I definitely would like to hear from the GoI publicly that there is nothing people have to worry about," he said.
