Shyamaprasad movies are ones that are always highly anticipated. 'Ivide' was no exception, only more so, considering the foreign location and high technical detailing. Shyamaprasad has previously too directed movies set abroad. His 'English' was one such movie. With 'Ivide', he has once again demonstrated his capabilities as a filmmaker of caliber.
'Ivide' was touted to be an out and out thriller. But as the movie unfolds, one feels that it is more of a human emotional drama than a thriller. There are emotions running high the movie pans the life of three people. An investigation just happens in the backdrop.
The successes, failures, complexities and trauma of three lives unfolds on the screen. There is a newness to this story - an urbane tale set in Atalanta. People watching this movie may feel the story alien and something unexpected, which may be a dampener. But those who love watching people and their struggles to figure out their life can find 'Ivide' rewarding.
Bhavana as a single mother, Prithviraj as Varun Blake - a police officer and Nivin Pauly as Krish Hebbar have convincingly enacted the roles. Their lives intersect at a certain point. Lurking in the backdrop is a serial killer. The hunted, the haunted, and the hunter all occupies the same frame. While sometimes, memories trigger the haunting, at other times, it is the present experiences, which in turn shapes the future.
'Ivide' is a pleasurable watch with no jerky movements or over the top mannerisms. In its subtlety, it is very international in feel. he background score and music too maintains a good tempo throughout. And Gopi Sunder has got his craft right.
'Ivide' may not be what is expected or even desired. But it sure is good cinema. It has that deft Shyamaprasad touch. Though it may not do well in the theatres, 'Ivide' is one movie which can
immerse you in the journey of life, which the movie deftly captures.
